My wife heard from a neighbor that they had family going to England ... and if we wanted to send a package they would be happy to take it there for us.
Marcie hurried and put together a package.
We got a text message a few days later telling us that he got the package and that he had a new companion and was a zone leader. The England (and all other) mission is divided up into Zones, then further into Districts, then further into individual companionships of either Sisters or Elders. We did not receive a letter this past week (other than this news). We did get one yesterday however. I am sharing it as he shared it for the most part.
Hey mom! I feel like I haven't talked to you for ages!
Thank you so much for the package! It was way cool! I'm even wearing one of the tie clips right now actually! :) Thanks for the notes and everything as well. I feel really bad that I haven't been able to talk to you all for the past couple of weeks! I'm sorry about that.
Today is p day for us, because we had a mission wide conference yesterday win Clayton Christensen, the guy who wrote "The Power of Everyday Missionaries" or something like that. It was awesome. It was also the reason that I'm emailing you today, rather than yesterday. But it was so good. The Spirit was there, and it was so good to see other missionaries who have become my friends again. I love them all.
ALSO. This is a slight diversion from the subject, but I met one of our cousins or something randomly in Hyde Park Chapel yesterday as well!! I saw him and I had a feeling that I should talk to him, so I told him that I liked His jumper, and then he noticed my name and then everything hit off from there! He's grandpa's cousin. He even looks like him a little bit! He plays the organ very well, and very professionally. He played a couple of songs for me, and told me that he loved Grandpa, and we talked about [family], and it was great! It was such a tender mercy for me to see him. I know that that experience was from Heavenly Father. It was a miracle. I saw a miracle yesterday! A big one! Here's a picture
What a tender mercy. Family is forever. His name is Jim (James) Drake. I might not have a lot of time to email Grandma and Grandpa, but if you could show them this, it would be great. I love him, and I hope that I'll be able to see him again. That experience was the Lord reaching out and telling me that family is the connecting bond that holds eternity together. That was a little bit poetic, maybe it was Him telling me that family connections overlay everything. It doesn't matter where you are of what you've done, or where you've been, family is always there for you. The coolest thing is that as a ward, we're all a family! Either way, it was a miracle, and it was awesome. :)
Being a zone leader is cool, because there are so many opportunities to serve others. You have your area, and your companion, but you also have your zone as well. I'm filled with love for each one of them. I want to help them feel the Spirit, and feel the love of Heavenly Father as I speak with them. I want them to grow, and to be leaders. I want them to be happy. There's a lot of new missionaries in the zone, so I feel a responsibility to help them begin their journey here in England on the right track. It's different. Almost like you're married, I think. I wouldn't know, because I've never been married, but we're both united in the same cause. We both have the same vision, and it's really cool to talk about it when you don't have he same vision, or when you disagree on your plans, because everyone is different. And sometimes their ideas are better than yours.
My companion's name is Elder Wright. He's from Compton California. He's really an inspiration to me. He's a convert to the church, and that viewpoint helps him to identify with other people. He does that really well anyway, but he's just a really cool guy. He has a lot of talent, and his heart is definitely in the right place. That makes me happy to see.
There's so much work to do in the Lord's vineyard. I'm grateful that I can be a part of it. :)
Also! I'm serving in Watford now, which was the first stake that I served in on my mission! Enfield is in Watford Stake, and we're going on an exchange there this week! It's like I'm returning home!
I love you guys a lot! Thank you for everything!
Until next time,
FROM LONDON,
